On July 18-19 the 1914 Olmsted-designed Dunn Gardens provide a dramatic backdrop for a group show of invited artists whose work is inspired by the themes of the Alaska Yukon Pacific Exposition of 1909. This mature graceful Northwest estate demonstrative of the Country Place Era of the early 1900s, still showcases the abilities of the Olmsted firm that designed the AYPE grounds. The ArtWalk will challenge local artists to create new works with currrent sensibilities and talent, but that are shaped and colored by themes of the AYPE which highlighted the bounty and resources of the state and its trade partners. Artists will speak to this exciting dynamic between past and present. This 2009 event stimulates a modern artistry, rooted in the past, with pieces set in a mature landscape evocative of 1909.
