Hamamelis

Commonly known as Witch hazel, this plant always provides a pleasant hit of color, when one thinks that winter won’t end. The spidery petals range in color from yellow, orange into various shades of red. Good autumn color-yellow flowered forms will have yellow foliage, while the orange/red forms will have foliage of corresponding colors. In too deep of shade this plant won’t flower well, while full day blasting sun isn’t ideal either (summer watering will help, though). We usually prune while in flower (what better way to have a bouquet?) Upright when young, some forms become quite wide spreading with age, so research is in order.
