We have been planting many more primula in the gardens over the last several years. Unlike the ones that are bought at the local grocery store, these tough varieties are raised from seed. The origin of this seed strain started in Oregon in the 1930's. Florence Bellis grew primulas from British seed and began to select out different color strains. Over the decades the collection grew in variety and colors. After Florence sold the collection to other primula enthusiasts, the collection eventually ended up in France. Seed is still being produced and that is where all of the new primulas that we have been planting out have come from.
