Blechnum penna-marina is a native of the Southern hemisphere, both South America and New Zealand. This low, evergreen fern makes a beautiful ground cover, never growing very fast. The new foliage is bronze colored, aging to a deeper green. This plant can be viewed near the upper pond, where it coexists happily with Adiantum pedatum. Every several years, if we remember, we dig out chunks of this fern to spread around elsewhere. Partial shade and a not too dry environment suits this plant best.
