Many crabapples look like hell, in the maritime NW. This selection is one that holds up well, with no disease or leaf drop that we’ve noticed. Planted towards the back of Ed’s perennial border, this tree has been a real ‘doer’. Pink buds open to white flowers. Within two weeks the flowers are mostly spent, but the autumnal fruit is wonderful, as it is a sublime blend of golden yellow into orange into red. By the solstice, the fruit (larger/softer) is almost all gone as the combination of hard frosts and birds strip the tree.
