Rhododendron cinnabarinum is native to the Himalaya range in Asia. At the Dunn Gardens this plant reliably flowers every year. Beautiful in flower, with waxy tubular flowers, the plant would not win prizes here for overall beauty. There are many selections of R. cinnabarinum available and the leaves can be wonderfully aromatic as the new foliage unfurls in the spring. This plant too has suffered over the years from the new powdery mildew that has hit many of our favorite rhododendrons.
