Stylophorum diphyllum is another of our favorite springtime bloomers (along with many other plants...). Native to Eastern North America, this plant does well in our maritime climate. Another form, S. lasiandrum is native to China, but of the two this is the more elegant plant. Tough and low maintenance, this poppy blooms for quite a few weeks. The seed pods are pleasant looking too, having short silvery hairs/bristles. It has occasionally seeded in for us, but never enough to warrant any concern. After flowering the foliage stays decent looking through the rest of the growing season.
