Clematis 'Marie Boisselot' is also sold as C. 'Mme le Coultre'. This hybrid was created around 1900 and remains one of the best white flowered forms (for its size). When we moved into the curator's house it was trained on the wall and we moved it to climb into a red leaf Japanese maple, where the contrast between flowers and foliage is more pronounced. This cultivar is one that we don't cut back very hard in the spring. We do strip off the brown leaves in the winter months, to reveal the trunk and branching structure of the maple.
