Hosta 'Francee' is an old workhorse of a perennial. There are new cultivars of hosta on the market every year. Some turn out to be worthwhile, whereas others turn out to be dogs. This plant is like a simple black cocktail dress-you can't go too wrong. Early to rise and unfurl in the spring, slug resistant, it does well in many situations. We divided the original plants several years ago, splitting off pie-shaped chunks in the early spring and by mid-summer it was impossible to tell that the parent plants had been divided at all.
