Bergenia emeiensis
|
| Bergenia emeiensis
is a newer species collected from Mount Emei in China. This species is not
as hardy as many of the better known forms of bergenia, but it is being
used in hybridizing work. The resulting hybrids are quite vigorous and the
flowering time is longer. The leaves of B. emeiensis don't get the
same rich winter coloration as some of its relatives do, but the spring
flowers are more spectacular than most readily available cultivars. Be aware
that cutworms and root weevils can and will attack all bergenia, and to
have unblemished leaves one must be vigilant.
