Fritillaria uva-vulpis
|
| We bought this fritillaria as F. assyriaca, but
have since found out that is F. uva-vulpis. Native to parts of Iraq/Iran and Turkey, this spring
blooming fritillaria has performed very well for us in the western woodland
walk. It emerges and flowers (April/May) before the deciduous trees leaf
out and turn this part of the garden into a shadier place. Since we planted
bulbs three years ago, they have slowly but steadily multiplied in numbers.
Quiet and beautiful, this bulb grows between 12 to 14 inches high, on average.
The stems are sturdy and do not flop, a plus in a lower maintenance garden.
