Pacific Coast Iris is the name commonly used to describe the hybrids that occur between the seven different species that grow from Washington through California. These photographs show hybrids that Charles Price created, by the use of a paint brush in moving pollen from one parent to another. Some of the iris here are in a partially shaded environment, they get winter sunlight through the deciduous trees. Others are in a more open, sunny setting. Plants in both areas perform well. The key is to not give them much summer watering and to make sure that they don't sit in water in the winter. In Washington we often see them growing on roadside cuts.
