Rhododendron occidentale
|
| Rhododendron occidentale is an azalea native to
parts of Southern Oregon and Northern California, along the coast. Many
cultivars have been selected over the years. The plant in Ed's garden was
most likely planted in the early 1950's. Fragrant flowers in mid to late
May scent the air for quite a distance. This plant gets some mildew in the
garden, but not enough to draw one's attention. Fall coloration is decent
and we try and deadhead the plant every year, as the spent seedpods detract
from the flowers.
