Trientalis latifolia
|
| Trientalis latifolia is one of our native ground
covers. These plants were dug up from Charles' childhood home before it
was sold and bulldozed. Quickly spreading here in the garden, this diminutive
ground cover has thrived in dry shade. Flowering in late spring for a good
month or so, we sited it in the western woodland walk where it grows with
other native groundcovers and a few introduced perennials. Indians harvested
and cooked the tiny bulbs of this plant. Out of curiosity we got out the
trowel and tried some -- and are glad for modern grocery store.
