Cypella herbertii
|
| Cypella herbertii is a new plant for us. It was
bought at a local nursery this June and planted out into the curator's garden.
Native to parts of Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina, we don't know a lot about
how it will perform. Supposedly this species will be hardy, as the seed
was collected at a high elevation. Information we found stated that of the
15 species, C. herbertii is the only one that is hardy for mild parts
of the United States. The individual flowers last only a day, but the flowering
stem provides flowers for weeks on end, as a new one opens up every other
day. We will see if it is around next summer... Definitely worth trying.
