Dahlia coccinea

| Dahlia coccinea is a specie dahlia, refined and
very unlike what is mostly found in gardens nowadays. Dahlias are native
from Mexico into Columbia and were hybridized by the Aztecs, so this plant
has been popular for a long time. In the Pacific Northwest we have found
that large flowered dahlias require more upkeep, especially after a rain.
Hardy in the ground year after year here, the main thing to watch out for
are slugs which love to devour the emerging shoots in April, May, June...
