Hedychium coccinea 'Tara'
|
| Hedychium coccinea 'Tara' was found in the 1980's
in Nepal by Tony Schilling, a noted plant collector. While ginger plants
are hardy in the maritime Northwest, most forms won't flower, due to our
cool summer temperatures. This form and its sibling, 'Stephen', are both
worth an exhaustive search for. These thrive best with full sun, a rich
soil and summer irrigation. Going dormant in the late fall, these plants
don't want to sit in a saturated soil through the winter. Our plant is near
the lathe house, in the curator's garden.
