Pulmonaria 'Little Star'
Pulmonaria 'Little Star.' Photographed by Michelle Margroff. Copyright 2002. All rights reserved.
Pulmonaria 'Little Star' is one of a myriad of 'Lungworts' available from nurseries. These mostly herbaceous perennials flower in the early spring, with flowers of either blue, white or rose to pink. Blue is the most common color, and 'Little Star' is one of them. If sited in too dry of a site, the foliage of pulmonaria will often mildew. One way to avoid foliar problems is to cut the plant to the ground, while the last flowers are still present. If watered and perhaps fed, the plant will send out a new flush of foliage that is much less likely to mildew as the season progresses. Part shade seems to the best siting, as too much sun causes leaf burn, while deep shade will kill them.
