Romneya coulterii
|
| Romneya coulterii, commonly known as Matilija Poppy,
was planted in the perennial border off the garden classroom by Ed probably
back in the 1970's. Native to parts of Southern California and Baja California,
this plant thrives on neglect. Summer water is the bane of this plant as
root rot can set in with excess moisture. Flowering for months on end from
midsummer through fall, this plant is quite beautiful to view on a moonlit
night. Often partially evergreen after a mild winter, we cut this plant
to the ground in the spring to allow for fresh, vigorous new growth.
